Sing songs of sorrow

so that we remember the ordeals of others

The Orpheus Project Presents:

The Princess Sophia, an Opera in Two Acts

After it was suggested years ahead of time by conductor William Todd hunt, Juneau's Orpheus project commissioned an opera based on the sinking of the Sophia. It premiered on October 25th, 2018, on the centennial anniversary, at 8:00 in the JDHS auditorium to a nearly sold-out audience. The opera was a massive effort lead by producer Katy Giorgio and involved artists from Juneau, Southeast, Alaska, and the Lower 48 -some with strong connections to Southeast, some with none before this project. A recording by KTOO Public Media will be available, and a book with photos by Michael Penn is being created. Composition: Emerson Eads. Libretto: Dave Hunsaker. Musical direction: William Todd Hunt.]
